If you ask the Hawaii Visitors Bureau to name Hawaii’s prime asset and tourist attraction, they will cry out in union - "Jack Lord!" During his time in Hawaii, Jack has established himself not only as the star of a successful series, but a "Super salesman of the Islands!" Every Tuesday night, 90% of a possible 204,000 Hawaiian sets are tuned in to Five-0. The boy from Brooklyn is also an investor - he is planning to buy himself a Hawaiian sugar plantation in the very near future. "We’re never going to leave her," Jack says with sincerity. "We’re going to close down our home in Beverly Hills that we kept open for four years to see if we really wanted to stay here. There’s no doubt about it. We really do!" Marie Lord, one time New York fashion designer and Jack’s devoted wife of 25 years, agrees absolutely with her husband. Marie really considers her husband lord and master of their home, if not of all Hawaii. She constantly bolsters his confidence by reminding him, "Remember, Jack, it’s your show. You are the show. You are the star." She approves wholeheartedly of Jack’s plan to grow mangoes and papaya on the land. She is encouraging of his plan to have a sugar plantation. Jack has also bolstered the economy of Hawaii by buying a condominium near Diamond Head. Partial to flowered shirts and Hawaiian straw hats, he also enjoys the native speech habits. "I love this beautiful land," Jack will tell you if you ever visit Hawaii. "There’s a sweetness, a gentleness, a naiveté, a goodness. I’ll never leave the Islands. They’ll have to carry me out in a koawood box." That’s a lot of loyalty and perhaps it’s the reason he’s known as "Jacklord" to the Hawaiians, and they say it as if it’s a title of great distinction.

Jack is a music lover too. His father was a steamship company executive and allowed Jack to spend summers at sea during high school. As a teen-age seaman he sketched China and Persia from the decks of freighters.
